2018 Neighborhood Improvement Project (1801)

The proposed project involves the bituminous overlay of residential streets in various parts of the City; bituminous overlay with complete curb replacement; and complete reconstruction of the roadway. The streets are as follows:

Wilby Circle – Wilby Drive to the cul-de-sac
Shore Acres Drive – Richway Drive to Richway Drive
Bayview Drive – Greenwood Drive to Brookside Drive

Crescent Circle – Crescent Drive to the cul-de-sac

2018 State Aid Street Project (1802)

The proposed project involves the bituminous overlay and miscellaneous curb & gutter and sidewalk replacement for the following streets:

Margaretha Avenue – Broadway Avenue (TH 65) to 8th Street
Plaza St – CSAH 20 (Richway Drive) to approximately 3,171 feet east of CSAH 20
Plaza St – Approximately 2,060 feet west of Bridge Ave to approximately 1,112 feet west of Bridge Ave

Downtown Sidewalk Replacement Project (1803)

The proposed project involves replacing miscellaneous sidewalk in the downtown area. Sidewalk that has settled or displaced and is causing a tripping hazard, as well as sidewalk with excessive spalling or other damage will be replaced. The pedestrian ramps at all intersections will be replaced in order to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.  The streets involved with this project are as follows:

Washington Avenue – Pearl Street to Fountain Street
Newton Avenue – Pearl Street to Fountain Street
Pearl Street – Washington Avenue to Broadway Avenue
College Street – Washington Avenue to Newton Avenue
William Street – Washington Avenue to Newton Avenue
Clark Street – Washington Avenue to Newton Avenue
Water Street – Washington Avenue to Broadway Avenue

Johnson Street Reconstruction Project (1804)

The proposed project calls for the complete reconstruction of Johnson Street from North Shore Avenue to Valley Avenue (approximately 1,313 feet). Proposed work will include complete removal and replacement of the curb & gutter, sidewalk, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and watermain. The existing concrete pavement will be removed and replaced with a bituminous surface.

Lakeview Blvd. Reconstruction – Hatch Bridge to Martin Rd. (1605)

The proposed project calls for a bituminous overlay over the existing pavement from The Fairway to Martin Road. The improvement is intended to extend the life of the pavement for 15 years provided routine pavement maintenance is performed.

Downtown Parking Lot Reconstruction (1809)

The proposed project calls for repaving St. Mary Avenue & William Street parking lot and St. Mary Avenue & West Main Street parking lot. Both these parking lots are beyond their useful life. The project involves removal of the existing bituminous pavement, regrading the existing aggregate base, and paving a new bituminous surface.

Bay Oaks Drive Reconstruction (1810)

The proposed project involves the removal and replacement of bituminous surface and aggregate base along Bay Oaks Drive & Sundance Lane.  The Bay Oaks Drive cul-de-sac was reconstructed in 2011 and will not be reconstructed with this project. The curb & gutter on both Bay Oaks Drive and Sundance Lane are in good condition will not be reconstructed as part of this project.

Minnesota state law (Chapter 156 of the Session Laws of 2005) requires that "a city or county with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and base salaries of its three highest-paid employees." For the City of Albert Lea, titles and salaries as of Jan. 1, 2019, are: City Manager, $138,375.12; Director of Public Works/City Engineer $110,780.80; and Director of Public Safety $103,646.40.
