Mayor Vern Rasmussen, Jr., has implemented a “Mayor’s Community Service Awards Program” in the City of Albert Lea. The program will honor outstanding achievements by citizens in 4 categories. Those categories are:
- Volunteer of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Good Neighbor
- Mayor’s Choice
Nominations will be taken throughout the year and will be due in the Mayor’s office by March 16, 2018. An awards ceremony will be held mid-April.

MAYOR’S COMMUNITY SERVICE CRITERIA
(1) VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR:
A member of an organization who has shown outstanding dedication through projects and service this calendar year. Examples include, but are not limited to, church, 4-H, music, theater, school and civic groups.
(2) SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR:
A senior citizen who engages in one or more of the following activities:
a) Exemplary service among peers;
b) Creative endeavors;
c) Promotion of health, economic and other issues responding to the needs of senior citizens.
(3) GOOD NEIGHBOR:
a) A neighbor who has on many occasions offered any of the following: Help, understanding, cheer, comfort or consolation in time of need.
(4) MAYOR’S AWARD:
a) Mayor’s choice.
