Buckle up for safety!
City News September 26, 2025
Because using a seatbelt is the best defense against injury or death in a vehicle crash, the Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) is cracking down on seatbelt and car seat violations through the end of September.
In 2024, 106 people who died in traffic crashes were not wearing a seatbelt.
Also, the law requires children to be in the right car seat, booster, or seatbelt for their age and size. The ALPD reminds parents and caregivers that nearly half of all car seats are installed or used incorrectly. Make sure it’s right by contacting Freeborn County Public Health, 411 S. Broadway Ave., to assist with free education and installation. Call 507-377-5100 to request an appointment.
This extra enforcement is part of a statewide campaign. The Albert Lea City Council voted Sept. 22 to accept a $23,050 state grant from the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety for participation in the Towards Zero Deaths program. As with previous years, the ALPD will share the grant with the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
