Serving on City Council has been an eye opening and rewarding experience. I encourage anyone interested in serving to learn more, get involved and consider running for office. Ward 1 will be an open seat in 2 1/2 years when my term is completed.

Have any of the current council members who's seat is up made their intentions public yet as far as seeking reelection?

For residents of District 2 — Glenville, Hayward, and surrounding townships — remember: Commissioner Dawn Kaasa voted to raise your taxes and increase commissioner’s pay. If voting for Kaasa again, don’t complain about rising taxes, affordability, or economic decline. She is a nice person, but after four years, she hasn't shown the ability to manage an $78 million budget, protect schools, or create economic solutions. The next time an ambulance is delayed, or you can’t get a medical appointment, ask Kaasa why years on the EMS board produced no ambulance solutions and no collaboration with citizens to improve healthcare. She receives great healthcare, you should too. #2026Election #ruralMatters #Vote #WedesearveBetter

So what specific time is early morning? Late evening?

Is there a date set for the splash pad to open?

NO ACTION TAKEN AT MAY 11 MEETING: The Albert Lea City Council is seeking more public feedback, along with information from the police department on pet complaints, before deciding on proposed changes to dog and cat regulations.

The proposed changes aim to promote responsible pet ownership, prevent nuisance and safety concerns, and strengthen enforcement tools.

The council will likely discuss the changes at its next meeting on Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m.

Prohibit feeding of feral cats? Ya, that's not going to stick.

How are you going to enforce the prohibiting of feeding feral cats, responsible pet ownership, etc, when you can't even enforce the current city ordinances regarding animals and their surroundings. Maybe focus on successfully enforcing those, before you complicate it even more.

How about more focus of the crazies and pedos running around in the streets

This sounds like they are pawning off their duty of enforcing any pet laws, in AL, off to the homeowners. Smh 🤦🏼‍♀️

I would absolutely love to reduce the number of people's cats peeing in my yard.

We would need to hire an animal resource officer if we keep the current animal limits. I for one, don’t think our officers should be wasting time on an animal call because someone has 1 to many pets. However, with another body hired, means another tax funded job and then we need to buy a vehicle for them…. Some of you same people complain about taxes, but want all these extras. Where do you think the money comes from?? Also, where do wild animals go to the bathroom? Do they have a designated spot where all animals go to relieve themselves?? I don’t see anyone complaining about deer poop or any other animal? Seriously, we as humans need to find better things to do with our time..

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! I emailed my ward person n got NO response!! Imagine that!? Everyone needs to CALL ..EMAIL.. n Go to the council meeting n get your voice heard!! This can not get passed!! Share with everyone u can!! 😡😤😖😣😠👿😾

I will always feeding the feral cats, all they need is LOVE FOOD n WATER and SHELTER!

Please contact your council members with your thoughts about these proposed changes. That is the only way to find a resolution to this. My feeling is that there are multiple pieces to this change that should be dealt with separately.

How about making it illegal for your friends at the Freeborn County Human Society to deny helping people with services as a non-profit who qualify?!!! You can’t have responsible pet ownership when low cost help is denied for people who qualify out of some twisted false assumptions. And if you don’t feed the feral cats, they die in your garage, under cars, in engine compartments, under porches, in sheds, etc, etc, etc. They wander more looking for food, and get into garbage or poison. This would constitute animal abuse/neglect which is illegal in the state of Minnesota. Talk to your farmers too about spaying and neutering their barn cats!!! Connect with MNSNAP.org for low cost spay neuters for when management at the HS gets her nose in a twist too, because they are hindering help, and part of the problem. Stopping the breeding should be the goal. I’ve got at least a dozen feral cats breeding in my neighborhood. You need to adopt a TNR attitude, and protecting the ferals from contracting diseases and spreading them!!!

This means there are a few of these built around the city?

When is splash pad opening?

PLEASE build or put a porta potty over by Catherine’s island. I know my email was seen this week also but as there are so many families there do fishing and so much more, it’s annoying to have to go into the surrounding stores to use their bathrooms and not fair to that business.

This is great!

Bureaucrats are still quick to order brave men to do dangerous things. Tasks they want no part of. I'd bet there was no member of the Board of Heath anywhere near the ordered incident. They might have caught smallpox. BTW, smallpox vaccination developed in May, 1796.

Safety first, adventure second! 🚲✨
Before you hit the road or the trails, make sure you’re ready for a smooth ride. Here are 3 quick tips to keep you safe:
1️⃣ Check your gear: Is your helmet snug? Are your tires pumped?
2️⃣ Be seen: Wear bright colors and use lights, especially at dawn or dusk.
3️⃣ Follow the rules: Signal your turns and stay alert.
Keep those wheels spinning safely! 🛡️

ANYBODY remember "Mike the Talking Bike??"

Austin, MN. About 1979. I'm riding my bicycle no handed reading an actual book. (Johnny Bench's autobiography). I blew through a stop sign and brakes screamed. Almost scared the fudge nuggets right out of me. I was 3 feet and a half second from becoming a hood ornament. The driver got out to make sure I was ok. I was not injured, just rattled. Driver said to me "If you are not going to stop, at least slow, look, and go". 45 years later, I still remember that moment. I'm sure the driver of that Gran Torino was just as rattled inside as I was. I still thank the Lord that he didn't hit me. I'd have been dead. My fault. But he would have had to carry the feeling of guilt forever. Because I was reading a book while riding.

I love this!!

How about making it law you have to be 16 to drive any electric scooter or bike. To many little inexperienced kids and with no helmet riding these. Just saying.

In probably record time of :43 minutes, this awesome family located the 2nd coin under the drinking fountain at the city beach/skate park! Thank you all for participating and getting out to enjoy a beautiful day! We will do another one another time! We promise! Until then, stay safe!!

Clue #1: ✅ "Tired of the daily grind? Not me! Where I sit, it’s quite awesome. Get your trucks ready to roll, but don't look for me on the highway (for obvious safety reasons). The gleam from the deck is just perfect."

Clue #2 ❌ "Keep an eye on your TOE line while you're searching. Drop a KNEE to the concrete to get the right angle. Only a HAWK would see this prize from above, but you'll find it where the double-deck floats. Don't be a poser."

Clue #3 ❌ "You’ll need more than just Vision to find me. I’m the shadow beneath the stream, watching every Shredder catch some vert on urethane waves. Even Michelangelo needs a splash after a gnarly session. Cowabunga!"

Clue #4 ❌ "Talk to me, Goose. I’m 'Playing with the Boys' between the ollies and the Mavericks. I am where the pavement ends and City Beach begins. It’s choice."

Clue #5 ❌ "The session reaches the tail. This is the Final Countdown. Reach beneath the fountain where the mounting meets the slab. Grab the prize in the dark. Game Over, Man!"

🚨 CASE CLOSED: COIN RECOVERED 🚨

We have a winner! A huge congratulations to Ben and David Rose for successfully cracking our cryptic clues and recovering the ALPD Challenge Coin.

They navigated the "bridge that crosses nothing but air" and located the prize hidden beneath the balance beam at the All Inclusive Playground at Edgewater Park. Their sharp eyes and detective work prove that no mystery is too tough for the people of Albert Lea.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the hunt this National Police Week. It’s a privilege to serve a community that is always up for a challenge!

Here are the planned clues:
Day 1 ✅ "I am the underside of a journey that gains no ground. I dwell in the cold shade of a steady gait, pinned between a silent foundation and a horizon made of steel. Look for the bridge that crosses nothing but air."

Day 2 ✅ "I see only the shadow and the boots of the brave, resting above a floor that feels the way it looks. I am held by iron feet that never move, hidden in the dark of a narrow groove."

Day 3 ❌ "North of the channel, where the shore meets the shade, I am tucked where the echoes of laughter are made. I do not swing, and I do not slide; I am the rigid spine where the daring stride."

Day 4 ❌ "The edge of the water holds the key to the quest, where the forest and fountain are put to the test. Beneath the steel timber, low to the grain, I wait for the one who can handle the strain."

Day 5 ❌ "The hunt ends where balance is the only way forward. Follow the straight, narrow path to its support. Reach beneath the beam that doesn't bend, where the rubber meets the steel. The prize is in the shadow at the journey's end."

🚨 CASE CLOSED: COIN RECOVERED 🚨

We have a winner! A huge congratulations to Ben and David Rose for successfully cracking our cryptic clues and recovering the ALPD Challenge Coin.

They navigated the bridge that crosses nothing but air and located the prize hidden beneath the balance beam at the All Inclusive Playground at Edgewater Park. Their sharp eyes and detective work prove that no mystery is too tough for the people of Albert Lea.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the hunt this National Police Week. It’s a privilege to serve a community that is always up for a challenge!

I still can't figure out why Albert Lea is promoting a social engineering project whose sole purpose is converting the population to a plant based diet. Do some research. Blue Zones flies in the face of everything we are. It is a fraudulent sales scheme.

We asked ourselves what our pets would do at the library and honestly… their answers matched their personalities a little too well. 😂🐾

Thanks St. Charles City-County Library for the post idea!

We'd love to see your pets! Post a pic in the comments and tell us what you think they'd do if they visited the library!
