Community Development grants help preserve history, boost local business
The City of Albert Lea provides two grant programs to help property owners in the historic downtown and along the main commercial corridors.
- Broadway Ridge Renewal grants provide funding for façade improvements in the historic downtown, mainly on Broadway Avenue between Main and Fountain Streets. The goal is to preserve architectural characters that are unique to Albert Lea. This is a 50/50 matching grant up to $50,000 for any one building not to exceed $50,000 over five years.
- Main Corridors Urban Renewal grants extend and complement the Broadway Ridge program by providing financial assistance for site improvements in the historic downtown and businesses visible from South Broadway, East Main Street, West Main Street, Bridge Avenue, Clark Street, Front Street and Fountain Street. These grants provide up to $25,000 in matching funds for eligible projects.
