Albert Lea Garage Fire
Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 1019 St. Joseph Ave. on Thursday, June 19, at 8:42 p.m. for a reported garage fire.
A neighbor outside grilling noticed smoke coming from the garage next door and called 911. The neighbor made contact with the homeowner and checked to make sure everyone was safe.
Fire crews responded and found a three-stall garage with fire coming out the north stall and smoke throughout. The crews were able to make a quick fire attack and put the fire out in about 5 minutes. Crews remained on scene for about an hour looking for hot spots.
The homeowner had been working in the garage earlier in the day. Some sparks got into an upholstery item. The embers were dormant for a few hours until they received air and ignited.
No injuries were reported. Damage to the garage is estimated at $30,000.
The Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted Fire Rescue on the scene.
