During the March 9 City Council meeting, Police Chief Darren Hanson presented formal commendations to Sgt. Alex Kunkel and Officer Josh Knudtson for their actions in rescuing a 7-year-old victim of a stranger abduction.
“They didn’t just punch a clock that day. I truly believe they saved a life,” said Darren. “I’m often asked why with everything we see happening in the world and in the media, why would you choose to do this job? It’s incidents like these that are the reason why.”
The department also recognized Sgt. Sy Vanthavong, Officer Greg Calbick, and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Deputy Jarvis Burgett for their assistance during the incident.
Alex and Josh received commendations for their tactical judgment and commitment to public safety. Their actions that day “made a lasting impact on a young girl, her family, and their entire community,” said Darren.
