Arbor Day: Lions Club and Parks Department branch out to schools
City News April 24, 2026
Today is Arbor Day, a time to celebrate the power of trees in providing habitat, absorbing stormwater, shading structures and people, and beautifying communities.
Volunteers from the Albert Lea Lions Club, in the photo above, spent time this week preparing seedlings for distribution to local schools. Through this annual partnership with the Albert Lea Parks Department, third-graders in Albert Lea Area Schools receive a tree to plant.
The program aims to meet two goals: Teaching children about the vital role trees play in the local ecosystem and providing students with a hands-on way to bond with nature.
