Council puts focus on motorcycle awareness

City News May 1, 2026

At its April 27 meeting, the Albert Lea City Council proclaimed May as Motorcycle Awareness Month to highlight road safety. Mayor Rich Murray joined members of the Flatlanders chapter of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E.) in the photo above to help advocate for rider safety and education.

Three motorcyclists have already died on Minnesota roads this year. To prevent further fatalities, riders and drivers must work together to prioritize safety:

  • Drivers should always look twice for motorcycles, especially at intersections and turns.
  • Riders should wear high-visibility protective gear, ride at safe speeds within their skillset, and sharpen their skills with a training course.
