Injury crash

City News June 24, 2026

On June 23, 2026, at approximately 9:18 p.m., officers from the Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) responded to the intersection of Broadway Avenue South and William Street for a reported vehicle-versus-bicycle crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old Albert Lea male was traveling northbound in the 200 block of Broadway Avenue South and came to a complete stop at the intersection of William Street. A 14-year-old Albert Lea male riding a bicycle was traveling northbound alongside the pickup truck. As the pickup truck began to pull away from the stop sign and proceed through the intersection, the bicyclist turned westbound directly in front of the vehicle without yielding the right-of-way.

The pickup truck struck the bicyclist, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The bicyclist was transported by ambulance for treatment.

The Albert Lea Police Department was assisted at the scene by Albert Lea Fire Rescue and Mayo Ambulance Service.

The crash remains under investigation.
