CITY ARENA UPDATES: The contractors plan to complete the new refrigeration system for both rinks in early March. Then they will connect the new permanent chiller to the Nystrom rink to keep ice in through March. Once the subfloor heat is running under the Colstrup rink, the Recreation Department will put ice in, which should occur in April. Without heat under the floor, there would be a risk of permafrost damaging the new rink floor. When complete, the Colstrup rink will have ice year-round. Come out for public skate on Monday, Feb. 16, from 1-3 p.m. and check out the updates! ... See MoreSee Less

What’s your so called plans for the two vacant properties that you wanted torn down?? I see that they are filling up the two vacant lots with sand.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO CANNABIS ORDINANCE include raising the local limit from 2 to 4 registrations within City of Albert Lea limits. The city has registered two cannabis businesses so far, neither of which has opened yet due to issues with product availability.
Other changes would include:
- More extensive background checks for registration applicants
- Limit of 1 registration per applicant
- No transfer of registration or change in ownership without city approval
- Allowing some use of cannabis – with restrictions – at temporary events
The Albert Lea City Council voted Feb. 9 to introduce these and other changes to local cannabis regulations. The changes require 2 votes with the second vote scheduled for Feb. 23.

Now let’s dredge Albert Lea lake and put a marina out there for all the Iowa citizens frequenting town 🙂

What's a Cannabus...??🐫🪴🚌

Meth stores and hooker shops will be voted in next.

Anyone familiar with this industry could have predicted that out-of-state operators would struggle to secure local supply. I had multiple Minnesota vendors ready to stock my shelves last summer, well before the council denied my registration. City officials were advised on July 28 that state law and the city’s own ordinance required my approval. They chose to ignore that anyway, and now the city is in litigation and still has no operating dispensary. That is a lose-lose for residents and taxpayers. Albert Lea deserves leadership that follows the law and supports local businesses instead of creating costly and unnecessary disputes.

Just say NO to more!

p.s. all the weed smokers are already smoking in the city limits... so... it doesn't matter... in the slightest, what y'all decide to do...

As long as the Ped dont get it!

Come on AL you can do better!!

Get their shit together!!!!!

City councilman means representing a population where cannabis (not marijuana) is legal, regardless of his moral stance on the substance as expressed on Channel Six. Cannabis sales will be part of the commerce in Albert Lea that he is eager to promote and improve, so let's hope one person's moral preference does not impede progress.

Great work Sir! THANK YOU

Congratulations

congrats

He targeted me in high school purely because I was a foster kid.

So proud of my friend 🧡

Hopefully a hair less liberal than the others

Congratulations!🎊

Our police department continues to do their duty. Every one should support them

"ALPD does not inquire about immigration status during calls for service, including 911 calls." That's not good enough, Albert Lea Police Department. There are countless reports (with supporting evidence) that ICE is conducting warrantless searches and violating constitutional rights. We need you to do more than monitor traffic, merely prevent public executions, or look on as legal residents and even citizens are abducted. For God's sake, at least perform ID verification on every ICE-related call to ensure the citizens you're sworn to protect aren't being abducted! And for that matter, why not at least take down information of anyone being taken, regardless of status, so their families and legal counsel may be contacted. Situations like last Wednesday should never happen here.

And City of Albert Lea - City Hall, it would be nice to see action from the city to limit the scope of ICE activity (e.g. not allowing city property or other public spaces to be entered without a judicial warrant).

Hmmm, so the Albert Lea Police Department picks and chooses which laws it enforces! Wonderful, so I can pick and choose which laws I want to obey and the Albert Lea Police Department will be powerless to do anything about any law when lawyers get involved and fight any ticket!

Immigration enforcement does not require the terrorizing of citizens, period. That's a pretty conservative view, in case you don't know the difference between left and right.

Funny how they have no jurisdiction in immigration/ federal disputes but to monitor and verify that it's being done safely. Yet very comfortable with bringing people to a detention center and holding them there until ICE comes and collects. Seems like picking to me 🤨🤷🏽‍♂️.

So Albert Lea is a Sanctuary city which means it nullifies “The Constitution” and Federal Law. Albert Lea is a city in rebellion like the Confederacy was in the Civil War. Same principle, but worse bc the Civil War was for Americans, this treason is for protecting foreigners/invaders/criminals/enemy combatants. Albert Lea is committing treason.

AL doesn't need to be picking and choosing. One reason why I chose to purchase a house in AL was because my kids are brown and there was a decent amount of diversity. You will drive many people from this town and good luck with that. We are all supposed to be neighbors and look out for each other

The AL jail was used as an Ice holding pen years ago as a revenue source and nothing was said then. Now the blue haired crazies are offended and it becomes a big deal! Learn to OBEY the law and get over it!

Roughly 25% of our town's population are of immigrant origin. In our schools, roughly 45% of the student body comes from immigrant families. What do think will happen to this town when most of them don't feel safe or welcome here and they decide to move on to safer places. What will happen to our school system, local businesses, restaurants, property values and taxes, sales tax revenue, etc if we suddenly lose a large chunk of our population? If you think the birth rate is low now, consider what will happen to it if we lose the young and growing families. If you don't care about the ethics and morality of targeting and brutalizing swaths of people based on how they look or sound, think about how it will affect you, your community, your way of life. They aren't taking the worst of the worst. The documented people who came here "the right way" are not safe and protected during this invasion. People who don't feel safe and welcome will not want to stay here. They deserve to feel safe and welcome and we can't afford to lose them. Choose wisely.

I'm on side

Albert lea, is a shithole town and all of its officials in city and town leaders are so corrupt. Seems to me what several years ago wasnt some elected officials on the "TAKE" SEND THE ROITERS THERE TO BURN THE CITY DOWN JUST like they did in Minneapolis

The key here is 'legal' immigrant citizens!

Best PD in the state!

Some of you more worried about legal immigrants! Then u are about finding out ,trump and half of congress are child rapist!

City of Albert Lea - City Hall you're traitors and domestic terrorists! I hope you all get arrested

Loser..

Yet, you have no problems to let your community ( US ) that there will be a level sex offender coming to Albert Lea !

Bottom line…if you are legal, you have nothing to worry about. If you came across illegally then start packing and do the right thing and leave.

Okay so when ICE runs somebody off the road or breaks down someone’s door you will be out there to arrest them.

Immigrant. Is not illegal alien. Totally different

U.S. immigration policy is governed largely by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which was first codified in 1952 and has been amended significantly several times since. U.S. immigration policy contains two major aspects. One facilitates migration flows of foreign nationals into the United States; another focuses on immigration enforcement and removal. Immigration functions authorized by Congress in the INA and other laws are carried out by several executive branch departments and agencies. The United States has long distinguished permanent from temporary immigration. The INA's permanent immigration categories reflect principles of admission that are based upon national interest, including family reunification, U.S. labor market contribution, origin-country diversity, and humanitarian assistance. The INA provides lawful permanent resident (LPR) status through family and employer-sponsored categories, the diversity immigrant visa, and grants of refugee status and asylum, among others. LPRs may choose to naturalize, or become U.S. citizens, upon meeting requirements specified in the INA. Temporary immigration occurs through the admission of foreign nationals for specific purposes and limited periods of time, and encompasses two dozen categories that include foreign tourists, students, temporary workers, and diplomats. The executive branch may exercise statutory or executive authority to allow certain noncitizens to enter or remain in the United States on a time-limited basis, including those who have not been admitted through permanent or temporary pathways under the INA and might otherwise be subject to removal. These include Temporary Protected Status (TPS), immigration parole, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The INA also provides authority for immigration enforcement, including restricting entry to and removing persons from the United States who lack authorization to be in the country or who have such authorization but have committed acts that make them subject to removal. Immigration enforcement functions include border enforcement, interior enforcement, detention, and removal. Some individuals subject to removal may be repatriated; others may be eligible for forms of permanent relief or temporary protection from removal. just factual information for everybody on any side of the situation Instead of fighting with one another over laws fight to put forth representatives and leaders who can change the laws to accommodate what you believe in. may peace be with you.

If you came here illegally it's time to go home this is not your home until you come back legally why ie it so hard to understand

Democrats..."no one is above the law" except for criminal, illegal aliens. Hypocrisy much?

Holy cow this is exhausting. I thought we had good schools in MN. Guess not. Some of you slept thru classes.

NEWS RELEASE: ALPD RESPONDS TO THREATS OF VIOLENCE
On Feb. 12, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Albert Lea Police Department received a report of threats made toward the emergency department at Mayo Clinic Health System-Albert Lea.

Hospital employees reported that a male caller made statements threatening violence if his family member was transferred to a different facility. The call was received through a hospital switchboard, and based on Mayo Clinic Health System’s internal policies and procedures, the clinic initiated a temporary lockdown of its Albert Lea facility.

Albert Lea police officers immediately began investigating the threat and worked to locate the individual believed to be responsible. Officers located the suspect at a residence in Albert Lea shortly thereafter. The individual admitted to making the call and was taken into custody without incident.

Sky Lamont Christensen, age 37, of Albert Lea, was arrested and transported to the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center. He is being held on a charge of threats of violence (Minnesota Statute 609.713, Subd. 1).

There is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active.

Thanks for explaining! Wish I were a billionaire as I would tell mayo to take a hike and build a hospital.

Maybe get a hospital thats actually a hospital instead of a glorified clinic and ambulance dispatch.. I'm sure the dude was stressed etc and mayo prob only wanted to transfer them over for only a small sum of 30k by ambulance 🙄 or 70k+ by heli... not saying what he did was right by any means but I can understand why....

Violence against healthcare workers happens every day. Thank you ALPD for ensuring the safety of all. Its not ok to threaten staff that work hard to care for patients.

Thank you and thanks for explaining.

Thank you again for keeping us safer.

THANKS ALPD! We appreciate you ALL

Mayo does suck! Services went down hill when they removed our departments. They’re nothing but crooks! Yet, what this young man did, I wouldn’t have done that, I would have approached this issue in a different manner.

NEWS RELEASE: FUGITIVE APPREHENSION
On Feb. 12, 2026, at approximately 9:29 a.m., the Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) assisted the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) Fugitive Apprehension Unit in locating and apprehending a wanted supervised releasee.

The fugitive was a passenger in a vehicle being followed by Minnesota DOC agents. ALPD initiated a traffic stop near Fountain Street and Bridge Avenue. During the stop, the fugitive exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The fugitive, Nickalos DeWayne Taylor, age 22, of Austin, Minn., ran toward Fountain Lake and across the frozen surface, with officers in foot pursuit. ALPD officers, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and DOC agents established a perimeter around the lake near Raymond Avenue and Albert Lea Street, ultimately taking Taylor into custody without further incident.

Taylor had been on supervised release for a conviction of second-degree manslaughter. Custody was retained by the Minnesota DOC.

Where should I run? Hmmm, Imma take this wide open lake.

He ran right into ice on the lake

Thank you! One less chucklehead on the loose.

I was at work when I heard sirens blaring! Albert Lea Police Department well done! I’m not sure if you can answer this question, why was he placed on supervised release? Is he from Albert Lea or somewhere else?

I’m still appreciative of the child abduction case where the officer recognized the situation and got the child rescued.

You got a choice and free will control your thoughts and feelings and action. What’s the purpose of running you get nowhere supervision was not hard. It’s not hard if I can do it anybody could do it just control your thoughts feelings, and action.

Good job ALPD. Thank you for your service and protecting our City.

Great job ALPD! Once again you made a huge impact on the communities or someone's safety!

I appreciate our ALPD and all who were involved! Great work!

Marked as a crosswalk or not. Pedestrian has the right of way.

Start enforcing cars to stop for pedestrians in crosswalk

In the State of Minnesota, Driver Duties: Drivers must stop for pedestrians at all intersections, regardless of whether the crosswalk is marked or unmarked.

I miss the days when people were smart enough to not walk out in front of a car this is ridiculous.

Thank you. I have seen people drive around people stopped for an occupied crosswalk.

Awesome program folks...I have attended it.

Is this to show the incompetence of the police department? Maybe it is to explain to the people of this community how racism started with the ALPD from back in the day or maybe just maybe to explain who is still showing the closet racist that still exist? Asking for a friend!

Have you seen this billboard east of Skyline Plaza on Main Street?

Minnesota Firefighter Initiative (MnFIRE) installed the billboard to remind firefighters that they have free access and private support during a crisis. The initiative asked our fire chief, Jeff Laskowske, along with other Minnesota fire chiefs, to participate in the campaign.

MnFIRE helps Minnesota’s firefighters protect their health by focusing on the three biggest risks in the service: heart disease, emotional trauma and cancer. Through the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program, the organization offers free health and wellness training to every fire department in the state.

Departments can sign up for two-hour classes covering topics like:
• MnFIRE Awareness: An overview of heart health, trauma, and cancer risks.
• Emotional Wellness
• Cancer Prevention
• Heart Health
• Sleep, Fitness and Nutrition

If needing help right away, firefighters should call the 24-hour hotline at 888-784-6634.

Impressive Jeff!

They should have had the words translated on the show as he was singing!!!!! Shell shock for everyone!!!!!

If it's for firefighters, why not just put up a poster at the fire station? It's not my money, nor is it a big deal, just seems weird to put up a billboard for what, maybe 20 firefighters in town? Don't get me wrong though, I love the message.

Love this! ♥️♥️♥️

public awareness, accurate information is vital. stand with our Albert Lea Fire Rescue & Law Enforcement. hold them as well as who they're accountable to, accountable.

Just because I carry it well, doesn't mean it's not heavy. Admitting you need help, is not a sign of weakness. It's the strongest thing you can do. Reach out to the DAV for copies of the books about PTSD and trauma. We have extra copies to borrow. 507-318-0199 DAV cell number, leave a message.

This is great!

A commentor asked "why a billboard and not just posters".....This billboard may target firefighters...but firefighting is a male‐dominated industry and men's mental health (and mental health in general) is sorely under addressed. Firefighters are highly respected and are an admired representation of strength and valor; to show that strong men sometimes need help and that it is okay to ask for help...this benefits everyone and helps remove the stigma.

I don’t see anything wrong with this! Albert Lea Fire Rescue thank you for sharing this information!

Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 923 Lakewood Ave. at 3:41 a.m. today for the report of a space heater on fire.

Fire crews arrived on scene and found the resident had extinguished the fire by unplugging the space heater and pouring a cup of water on it. Both residents received smoke inhalation and were treated on scene. They went to the emergency room by personal vehicle. Fire crews removed the heater from the home and ventilated the smoke.

The cause of the fire was a fault in the space heater. The homeowner was using the unit correctly by plugging it directly into an outlet and remaining in the area and awake while it was being used.

Light smoke damage was recorded in the area of the fire, but did not spread into the structure.

Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted on the scene.

Why show a pic like that

The picture says differently 😂

I think it’s just a picture of a house and a fire truck just stating there was a house fire on Lakewood Avenue because that house don’t even look like anything that would be in that neighborhood

🙏🏻❤️🚒❤️🙏🏻

How big was the cup? Dang!

The photo is misleading. It shows a well involved structure fire, going through the roof. Based on the description of the incident, I’m guessing there was nothing showing on arrival, no lines laid, not even a pump can.

I saw this in that neighborhood app. I didn’t hear any fire truck

Not sure where all you guys have been but this photo has been used for every fire press release for as long as I can remember. And honestly it doesn’t matter if the fire was a small heater or fully engulfed structure, only thing that should matter is the safety for all emergency personal involved and all other pedestrians and animals.

Scary pic ,let's tune down the drama and the happiness of this report is every one is safe 👌

It's amazing that everyone has to complain about something on every post that either the news puts out, the newspaper and police and fire department. Its a picture for goodness sakes, get over it!!!!

People will complain if you posted the picture of the right address. Geez

Omg! This is just the picture they use. Doesn’t matter if the house is fully engulfed or a space heater malfunctioning. But it does get your attention doesn’t it.
