COUNCIL APPROVES REGISTRATIONS FOR 2 CANNABIS RETAILERS: At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Albert Lea City Council approved 2 of 3 cannabis retailer registrations on its agenda. Christopher Gracia of New Mexico, doing business as Matchbox Farms, plans to open a retail business at 2316 Hendrickson Road. Cristina Aranguiz of Washington state, doing business as Black Husky, plans to open a retail business at 2706 Ekko Ave. The council took no action on a third registration, Jacob Schlichter of Albert Lea, a registration that it voted against at its July 28 meeting. Don't you think you should let the people from here open these places instead of only added state people???

Way to go albert lea. Turn down a local. What else can you turn down.

That second to last guy he gave quite the speech !!! Was really impressed

City of Albert Lea - City Hall needs a wake up call!

So when does the city start dealing with the trap houses and camps?

lol I will NOT be supporting these guys!!! Fuck this town! Disrespectfully. !!!

Hey at least they got approved and add more tax dollrs to the city

But they will be watched like hawks

One slip up and they will loose everything

I hear that Jacob slickchter is a menace and big time trouble..

Typical Albert Lea preach on buying local but let people from other states open up and screw the local guy. The past is the past people change. Hope you all get sued.

Good

Why is it people out of state that are getting these approvals?

Casa Zamoras daughter in law was interested and so was Colin Minehart. Both would of been successful local business owners. That's really sad the City doesn't pick one of them.

I’m just glad the pedo didn’t get it. Local or not. Wish he wasn’t local.

They have Minnesota roots and are a wonderful family.

AL Police and the Freeborn County Sheriffs Office are currently in the wooded area between the city arena and highway 13 looking for an individual that fled from a vehicle. Officers, Deputies, and K9 are currently on foot. Please stay away from the area until given the all clear.

If anyone sees this masked avenger, let us know.

UPDATE: Officers and Deputies are clearing from the area. This guy decided that someone else’s ATV is free for the taking. ATV has been recovered but suspect is still at large.

Public Service Announcement: Geniuses like this are everywhere. Do yourselves a favor and lock doors, remove keys, and take any of your personal belongings out when you leave the vehicle.

Alina is very nice young lady.

Alina is great! So fun to meet with her!

Thank you for stopping by, love out books!

Good luck, Ladies!!!

I am wishing them a safe and productive stay. I hope that people can see these young courageous kids and remember that America has always welcomed all nationalities to this country to visit and learn. These kids will remind us of brighter times and hopefully people will start to remember what it is like to be welcoming and friendly to people of all nations.

I wish them success.

I think it would be helpful If you would let us know how much they are because a lot of people don’t have cash on them now days so they could be ready. prepared

Had a great visit with Sofia Bookgirl Trofimova! She is amazing!!!

My front door says "No Soliciting, except hookers" Gigfire is the only group to ignore the sign. I have trespassed them due to annoyance.

Wind Back Wednesday: This photo shows members of the Albert Lea Police department circa 1940's. A couple interesting things can be seen in this photo. If you look closely you will see that the holsters during this time period were worn in the cross draw position. Additionally, the officers were sporting an unusual amount of facial hair for the time. While the exact reason is unknown, it is likely the officers may have grown out their facial hair as part of the Colonel Albert Lea Days celebration. Photo courtesy of the Heilman family. ... Tara isn't that your grandfather Al Villiarreal

I was there...!!...Just without the beard...🥸

When did Gene Seuser join the force cause he was about 350 pounds soaking wet and did he ever physically chase anybody?

An Albert Lea officer lived on my street and during summer showed movies in his back yard. Always liked that man, think his name was Miff (getting old with my memory)

That was the good 'ol days when you could beat us down with no cameras watching. You didn't allow people with dark skin to use the same bathrooms or sit on the front of the bus. Much like today, you enforced laws without questioning the right or wrong.

Great picture! Bring back the bow ties and whistles !

Yes where is Charlie

Charlie Heilman?

Thanks for sharing history, love the old photos!

Love the tip of the hat. Definitely swagger!!

Great picture thank you

My uncle Harry Graham is the one on the left, front row.

How many of these so-called officers were part of the white hooded brigade? Asking for a friend!!!

I bet they didn’t use children to cover up money Laundering from a bank that is owned by law enforcement officers like todays Arcadian bank. Owned by 78 Owners.

VEHICLE PURSUIT

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., an Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) officer was dispatched to a residence to take a report of a 2015 Honda Civic stolen earlier in the morning from the home.

Prior to that officer arriving to take the report, an off-duty Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputy contacted dispatch to report a careless driving complaint on a 2015 Honda Civic in the area of Interstates 90 and 35. It was determined that this vehicle was the stolen vehicle.

ALPD officers and FCSO deputies were able to locate the vehicle and attempted to box the vehicle in near the area of Garfield Avenue and East Main Street, but the vehicle fled. The vehicle was pursued for approximately 1 mile before the pursuit was discontinued for public safety concerns. ALPD officers continued to monitor the vehicle from a safe distance and speed.

The vehicle ultimately stopped near the area of East Main Street and 777th Avenue. Three occupants fled from the vehicle, but were taken into custody a short distance away.

The driver was identified as Richard Clifford Tumberg, age 18, of Perham, Minn. Two juvenile passengers were taken into custody and later released to parents. Charges against the juveniles are pending further investigation. Tumberg was taken into custody on charges of receiving stolen property, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and fleeing a peace officer on foot.

Tumberg was also identified as a second occupant of a stolen vehicle that was pursued the previous week. Further investigation is being conducted to determine if any criminal charges will be pursued against Tumberg in relation to that incident.

The ALPD was assisted by the FCSO and Minnesota State Patrol.

Was this like a black car? I remember seeing someone constantly opening and closing their doors on the road and driving horribly at this same time, wonder if that was it

The car & cops all flew by me.

Why were the other 2 juveniles not held on accessory charges? They chose to be in a stolen vehicle.

Thank you to the officers for doing what was in the best interest of the public safety. It cannot be easy to make these calls.

I really appreciate the law enforcement we have SO ,PD, SP

Good job ALPD!

He’s from Perham mn that’s a ways from home being here

I Wasn't there...I Swear I Swear...!!🙄🚓🚨

So did somebody die because of his reckless driving?

Now slap them on the hands and let them go

No matter how fast you go you can't outrun the radio. Radio. Helping put warheads on foreheads since WW1. Yes, grenades dropped from bi winged wooden planes. With a radio.

Damn kids.

if charges? Way to go men.

Grand theft auto seems to be happening a lot with teens. People so used to the violence. They just keep reoffending. The kids should continued to be monitored. It is probably a unit of people networking and stealing vehicles. People are gross. We have teens that look as young as ten..dumpster diving for old garbage vapes. Bags always destroyed leaving a mess on our properties. Check your kids backpacks. These kids try anything.

Thank you officers

What is going on in Albertlea is ridiculous seems like they are trying to turn into the cities

Our Criminal Justice System is broken! The attorneys will always make a ‘ plea deal ‘!

Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 702 St Thomas Ave. on Friday, August 8, at 11:30 p.m. for the report of a bedroom on fire.

Fire crews and law enforcement responded and found a single story home with fire coming out the front side of the home.

The residents were outside with a few pets. Fire crews were informed that there were still dogs inside. Firefighters made entry into the main level through the front door and worked to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control quickly and a search of the home was made for the remaining pets. One dog was found alive in the basement and was taken to the resident.

Fire crews remained on scene for over an hour working to put out hot spots and conducting a cause investigation.

The cause of the fire was due to wiring in a light switch overheating.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $50,000.

The Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted Fire Rescue on the scene.

Brett was an amazing young man and a champion for Firefighters. I miss him!

Thank you for honoring my nephew! He was such a good man!

What a beautiful thing to do in his honor ❤️

We were wondering how hot they were.

A true hero in our community, always remembered ❤️ Firefighters are true heros. Two years ago in June we lost our wonderful amazing big hearted nephew Captain Chris Parsons of St. Paul who fought and made changes to help fellow fighters.

Kindness to.the max
