This Labor Day weekend, the Albert Lea Police Department reminds everyone: If you plan to drink or get high, plan for a sober ride home. Otherwise, you’ll risk it all. Drive sober or get pulled over. I know people who are driving high every day
How can you prove that someone is "high" at that specific point in time?
In the Gas ⛽️ Tank...??!!🙀⛽️☢️
Real impairment is exposed in dangerous driving moves - not by any blood or breath test. The standard field sobriety test is sufficient to detect impairment. If the driver is impaired from benadryl but you can't detect it, are you going to let him go, but if the driver is not impaired from THC, but you can detect it, he's going to be arrested? Nobody should drive while impaired from anything. Just make sure you're addressing the problem, and not some prohibitionist ideal.
What about all the people that drive like they cut their arm on and they're going to the hospital with it?
ACAB
I respectfully urge the Albert Lea Police Department to not only patrol for DUIs but multi-task and help seniors under AL Ordinance Chapter 28. Hearing a 95-year-old veteran and his 91-year-old wife say they’ve waited five years for city support is unacceptable. The "communication approaches" aren’t protecting seniors, who face ongoing safety and security problems. Serving them should take priority over easing judges’ workloads. More to come. #SeniorsMatter
IMPAIRED IS IMPAIRED: The Albert Lea Police Department reminds drivers that impaired is impaired, whether from alcohol, cannabis products, hemp-derived THC edibles, prescription medications or sleep aids. Anyone under the influence who is considering driving should put their keys down and get a sober ride. Drive sober or get pulled over. Learn more: cityofalbertlea.org/impaired-is-impaired/ ... Road closures can be a big inconvenience, we understand. While city crews work to deal with this project on Bridge Avenue along this small stretch, please use the detoured route (highlighted in green) to get around the construction if you need to stay on Bridge Avenue. We have received complaints of vehicles speeding through the Security Bank parking lot to bypass the construction. Officers will be conducting extra patrols and monitoring the area. Also if you weren’t aware, Albert Lea city ordinance 42.036 prohibits driving through private property in order to avoid traffic control devices. Such devices are semaphores 🚦, stop signs 🛑, and yes, even signs for road closure 👷. ... See MoreSee Less

What's a Semaphore loook like...??🤔🐸⛔️🐸🤔
Can yall patrol by the pool area? Dude in a brown Chevy Tahoe blaring music, driving around the block for like 3 hours last night around 11pm and another guy that lives right behind the daycare that speeds at 60mph down the road.
Hey we could use two of you down here patrolling at security Bank right after school and between 4:00 and 5:00 it's like I-35 going through this parking lot as people must think it's a 40 mph zone 😡 Anybody wanted to cut through the parking lot it's just as easy you just need to go around the block 🤔
Thank you to the Albert Lea Police department for patrolling our parking lot!!!! This is not Minneapolis it is not that hard to get around the town of Albert Lea!!!
Thank you.i get to see more of our community this way.
I go with the flow of things with road construction! Its not hard to get out to another route that will take you. I rather see it now and not in the winter time! Drive safe and watch for signs. Be happy and not frown. 😉 😉
Anticipated completion date?
What's happening at main and Garfield at the lights??
Why wasn't this taken care of when the road was ripped up for two years? Why wasn't the other one taken care of while Main was ripped up? Why are we having to pay for road construction twice on the same roads? Anyone with a brain would do it all at one time. It's pretty easy to do. You start with the bottom and work your way up.
I love that in 2025 we at the police had to draw a line on a map to explain. We are at peak not giving a fug this year. Hope its better for everyone 2026.
This tiny stretch seems to be very problematic. By my count, it's been torn up 3 times in approximately a year.
Stay home

Why?
Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 702 St Thomas Ave. on Friday, August 8, at 11:30 p.m. for the report of a bedroom on fire.
Fire crews and law enforcement responded and found a single story home with fire coming out the front side of the home.
The residents were outside with a few pets. Fire crews were informed that there were still dogs inside. Firefighters made entry into the main level through the front door and worked to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control quickly and a search of the home was made for the remaining pets. One dog was found alive in the basement and was taken to the resident.
Fire crews remained on scene for over an hour working to put out hot spots and conducting a cause investigation.
The cause of the fire was due to wiring in a light switch overheating.
No injuries were reported. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $50,000.
The Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted Fire Rescue on the scene.

HOW TO FILL A COUNCIL VACANCY: The Albert Lea City Council voted Aug. 25 to change the city charter to allow filling a vacancy by appointing a local resident instead of holding a special election. Voters would then choose a councilor in the next general election. The council must still provide public notice of the vacancy and public notice of intent to appoint a resident of that ward. It can also take applications, hold public interviews or even decide on a special election. The change allows options while preventing the cost of a special election.
