Green Team Promotes Sustainability
The Albert Lea Green Team meets monthly to collaborate on strategies to implement the City’s Climate Action Plan. Members include staff from all City of Albert Lea departments, Freeborn County Environmental Services, Shell Rock River Watershed District and Freeborn Mower Electrical Co-op.
Initiatives have included:
- Partnering on environmental messaging in print materials and online platforms
- Supporting solar energy for the City Arena and Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Supporting energy savings at the City Arena, Aquatic Center and Marion Ross Theater
- Supporting water conservation at city facilities
- Supporting continued transition to LED street lights
- Connecting the Albert Lea Police Department with Freeborn County Environmental Services for disposal of waste generated from cleanups conducted as part of enforcement actions

What you can do to make our community more resilient:
- Bike or walk to your destination
- Reduce, reuse and recycle!
- Keep storm sewers and local lakes clear of debris by participating in the Adopt-a-Drain program
- Instead of using a store’s plastic bags, bring your own reusable bags
- Plant a diversity of tree species
- Plant a rain garden
- Use rain barrels to collect rain for watering gardens
- Compost food waste
- Share rides for commuting and shopping
- Bike or walk to your destination
