Albert Lea holds elections Nov. 5
City Clerk October 31, 2024Albert Lea voters head to the polls Nov. 5 to elect three city councilors, all running unopposed in their wards.
Candidates
Rachel Christensen has filed for reelection for the Ward 1 seat. Voters elected Christensen in 2022 to finish the term of Rich Murray who ran successfully for mayor. With the partial term ending this year, the Ward 1 seat is up for election for the regular 4-year term.
Jason Howland has filed for reelection for the Ward 3 seat. He was first elected in 2016, started his first term in January 2017, and will run again for a 4-year term.
Keith Van Beek has filed for the Ward 5 seat, currently held by Robert Rasmussen, who was first elected in 2016 and started serving in January 2017. Rasmussen has chosen not to run again. This seat is also for a 4-year term.
The Albert Lea City Council is made up of six councilors, each representing a ward or specific area of the city, and a mayor who represents the community as a whole. See the ward map..
Polling places
The following polling places will be open Election Day from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.:
Ward 1: Freeborn County Fairgrounds, Fairlane Building, 1105 Bridge Ave.
Ward 2: First Lutheran Church, 301 Clark St. W.
Ward 3: United Methodist Church, 702 South Highway 69
Ward 4: Grace Lutheran Church, 918 Garfield Ave.
Ward 5: Albert Lea National Guard Armory, 410 Prospect Ave.
Ward 6: Assembly of God Church, 1540 South Shore Drive
