Albert Lea House Fire
City News August 9, 2025
Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 702 St. Thomas Ave. on Friday, Aug. 8, at 11:30 p.m. for the report of a bedroom on fire.
Fire crews and law enforcement responded and found a single-story home with fire coming out the front side of the home. The residents were outside with a few pets. Fire crews were informed that there were still dogs inside. Firefighters made entry into the main level of the home through the front door and worked to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control quickly and a search of the home was made for the remaining pets. One dog was found alive in the basement and was taken to the resident. Fire crews remained on scene for over an hour working to put out hot spots and conducting a cause investigation.
The cause of the fire was due to wiring in a light switch overheating.
No injuries were reported. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $50,000.
The Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted Fire Rescue on the scene.
