FUGITIVE APPREHENSION
City News February 12, 2026On Feb. 12, 2026, at approximately 9:29 a.m., the Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) assisted the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) Fugitive Apprehension Unit in locating and apprehending a wanted supervised releasee.
The fugitive was a passenger in a vehicle being followed by Minnesota DOC agents. ALPD initiated a traffic stop near Fountain Street and Bridge Avenue. During the stop, the fugitive exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The fugitive, Nickalos DeWayne Taylor, age 22, of Austin, Minn., ran toward Fountain Lake and across the frozen surface, with officers in foot pursuit. ALPD officers, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and DOC agents established a perimeter around the lake near Raymond Avenue and Albert Lea Street, ultimately taking Taylor into custody without further incident.
Taylor had been on supervised release for a conviction of second-degree manslaughter. Custody was retained by the Minnesota DOC.
