HAM DINNER? NO GREASE DOWN THE SINK PLEASE! This Easter and every day of the year, do the city’s wastewater treatment system – and your plumbing – a favor by keeping grease out of sinks and wipes out of the pipes. Instead of pouring it down the sink, dispose of fat, oil and grease in the trash by pouring them onto newspaper or into a container. Always place disposable wipes in the trash, even if the label says “flushable.” While the wipes may flush, they will not break down in the system. Grease and wipes can lead to costly clogs for you and our city. More tips here: loom.ly/BhmqkMU. ... See MoreSee Less

NEWS RELEASE: ASSAULT ARREST

On March 21, 2026, at approximately 5:08 p.m., Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) officers were dispatched to a residence on Broadway Avenue South for a reported assault. Initial reports indicated that a 77-year-old resident was bleeding from the head after being attacked. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the victim was suffering from a head wound. Witnesses stated the suspect had fled into a nearby wooded area wearing all black, had bloody hands, and was carrying a metal object.

Officers located a male matching the description near Broadway Avenue South and Railroad Avenue. The subject, who had blood on his hands, was non-compliant and began walking away from officers, discarding items including a large metal object. Officers deployed less-lethal devices and successfully took the subject into custody without further incident.

Both the victim and the suspect were transported to the emergency room at Mayo Clinic Health System-Albert Lea for medical treatment.

The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Paul Everett David who is in police custody. Preliminary investigation suggests the incident appeared to be a random encounter. The investigation remains ongoing; however, there is currently no threat to public safety.

The Albert Lea Police Department was assisted by Albert Lea Fire Rescue, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.

My heart absolutely breaks & goes out to the poor victims family, Paul is my uncle who suffers SEVERELY with mental health issues. Hopefully we can try to get him some help this time..I’m SO SO sorry to everybody for my uncles actions. 😭😭 Please know he’s NOT a level headed person who just randomly decided to snap one day, he lives in the woods by choice to escape the voices in his head and doesn’t believe he needs professional help or has any issues..

I hope the elderly man is recovering okay.

I hope Paul can get the mental health care he needs now. I know he's had a long struggle with drugs homelessness and mental health... Praying for you Paul And for the elderly man I pray as well

Our Police Department is second to none, and we're lucky to have them.

I have to update my post about david. They can send him to St Peter state hospital for the mentally ill who are dangerous to the public. I'm sorry about what happened but there are consequences for his actions. Mentally ill people are court ordered there and have to abide by their rules. The crime involved a weapon as I read and was violent in nature. He will be better off there.

Excellent JOB Officers💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂

Great job!!!

"Integrity+Respect+Accountability+Service".

Michaela Tews

Praying for him , he is in critical condition in Rochester .

David Christensen

Ted Radke

Prayed..

What bothers me so very much is the closing of Mental Health Hospitals. The 1970' 1980's brought a mentation to take mentally unhealthy individuals out of these hospitals, close the hospitals and utilize Community Integration. This has had a negative effect on many of these people. Very sad

Random encounter??? Seriously??? Just a random encounter?!!! holy crap! Stay safe out there, Everyone!

WHY!!WHY!! That poor man💔. Thank you ALPD for getting that LOSER off the streets

When they let him out in 2 days like always at least make him clean up the horrendous mess of garbage he has filled the woods with on Jefferson

So y'all can taze him and what not but when it came down to my cousin which y'all had no right at all to sit when all he was doing was walking away from y'all y'all open fire 5 rounds at him and kill him, it's a damn shame what this shit hole of a town has come to

Smack down an old man. Disgusting. Better find Jesus before you dirt nap. No lawyers in God's courtroom.

Automobile headlights should work just like a Motorcycle. If the key is on and the engine running then all the lights are on.

And just because your automatic headlights are on doesn't mean your taillights are. Turn then on in fog and other conditions so people candle see you.

Perhaps the ALPD could do a traffic/driving/ parking tips/ laws once a week. Like make sure your headlights are actually functional or don’t park in the yellowed painted area etc.

Also worth mentioning is it’s illegal to drive around with a foot of snow on top of your car.

By manually clicking on I ensure a dead battery 🤣

What lights that are bad to have but helps you see better

There was one morning when I was driving into work (when it was still dark) and came up on a car that didn’t have their headlights on. My initial thought was to flash my lights at them, but I didn’t. As I approached them- I realized it was a police officer. So, would I have been in the wrong for doing so? I did mention this to an officer that I know. Sadly, I wasn’t able to make out who was driving- so we couldn’t give him/her some grief.

I personally use my full lights when driving in fog, snow. Etc. and really appreciate others do the same thing. Auto lights only turn on your front lights the cars coming up behind you need to see your lights too!

Need to start ticketing people again! Not just posting this! Teach people how to yield too!!!

Hope that people read this. I’m so tired of people with no lights on when they should be. I always turn mine on. My life is worth having headlight & taillights on all the time.

Can you mandate people actually doing the speed limit through residential areas instead of turning them into race tracks. Since the police are apparently too busy to patrol them??

Maybe if you’d start pulling those people over the rest of them would start listening. You know how many people I’ve watched police drive by without lights on in heavy rain and fog?

Can you please remind ALL members of law enforcement of this as well

Can we mandate cleaning all snow off a vehicle

Tell your own officers that. I have driven by so many officers when it is raining out, or sleeting or foggy and they don’t have any lights on. Yall love to enforce the law on civilians but hate doing it to your officers. 🤷‍♀️

Why not enforce it?

Hell I've seen cops with no headlights on

Thank you, could you post something about using your turn indicators. Putting them on in the turn lane is not helpful. We have already guessed what you are doing. They are indicators not confirmatorys.

It's a law in NY... but there are those that don't adhere to rules of the road.. Almost like daring the law enforcement to ticket them! (Good people always pay the price for the rule breakers!)

Dont talk about it, BE about it. I have YET to see anyone get pulled over for headlights other than 1 being burnt out in hopes to find a dui! Actually protect and pull the dumb people over that drive in snow storms and fog with no headlights!

Always usually a Ford product with no lights on.

Should be a fine when this is not done. Dangerous

🚨 SCAM ALERT: FAKE "NOTICE OF HEARING" 🚨
Our department has been made aware of a sophisticated scam circulating in the area. Residents are receiving official-looking "Notice of Hearing" documents for traffic or toll violations. These are fraudulent.
The scammers are using high-pressure tactics and realistic legal language to trick you into paying "fines" through a QR code.
🚩 How to Spot the Fake:
• The "Judge" and "Clerk": The document lists "John Smith" as both the Judge and the Clerk of the Court. In a real court system, these roles are held by different individuals.
• Generic Violations: It vaguely lists "Parking Violation / Toll Violation" without a specific location, vehicle plate number, or date of the alleged offense.
• QR Code Payments: Government agencies and courts will not ask you to settle a legal matter or pay a fine exclusively via a QR code or third-party payment link.
• Inconsistent Dates: Note the "Issued" date versus the "Hearing" date—scammers often create a short window to rush you into acting without thinking.
🛡️ Protect Yourself:
1. Do NOT scan the QR code. This can lead to phishing sites designed to steal your credit card or personal information.
2. Verify directly. If you are concerned about an actual citation, contact the Hennepin County District Court directly using a verified phone number from their official website (mncourts.gov).
3. Spread the word. Share this post with friends and family, especially those who may be more vulnerable to official-looking mail.

City of Owatonna, MN Government, this should be posted by our police department as well. It's happening in Owatonna as well.

I received this text today - the Minnesota seal at the top has the state spelled wrong and the wrong seal logo…scary how official it looks though!!!

Not to mention Minnesota is spelt wrong on the seal as well. Looks like since the Learing Center scam fell through, they're onto this

I received mine

Thanks 🙏 for sharing this information!

Beware! Can happen anywhere.

Im in Austin and got one yesterday

Glad to see this! Our son received this yesterday.

I got one of these also, I ignored it

That isn't Minnesota's state seal - not even close. On top of not being the state seal, Minnesota became a state in 1858 not 1888.

I received this today from Illinois! And I’m from Minnesota! Thank you for sharing it to get people aware!

I got one today for Indiana 🤣

I got this as a text message

Arieona Johnson

Got one today.

Nope

Not like the ALPD would do anything if this were real. They'd just tell you it's a "civil matter and you need your own paid lawyer."

Thank you for sharing!!

Good luck with that one. Most people won't even go to that toilet of a town.

I got one too 😂😂

Here’s a feel good story for your Saturday enjoyment.

This portrait in this photo is of the Albert Lea Fire Department around 1900. The family of firefighter Joseph Brakken has been passing it on in their family, even emigrating to Canada with it over all these years. Brakken’s family recently reached out to us and asked us if we would like it.

Thanks to firefighter Brakken’s great-great-granddaughter, Darian, and her co-worker, Keith, it is currently making a journey from Moose Jaw, Canada, to Aberdeen, South Dakota. It will be received by the family of current captain, Kurt Wallace, who live in Aberdeen, and then it will make its final leg of the journey back to Albert Lea. 🥳

As the great-granddaughter of Joseph Brakken I want to thank firefighter Brandi who answered my Facebook message and readily accepted the picture and offered it a home!

Local McDonald's Restaurant in Albert lea Minnesota hit by Iranian Missle on Tuesday...🙀🍟🍔🚀🍔🍟🙀

Your clocks probably changed themselves, but your CO alarm and your smoke alarms won't. Be sure to swap out your batteries today for new and check the date of manufacture to make sure the alarms are still valid.

A lot of calls we get are for expired batteries or expired detectors. Check the manufacture's recommendations, but in general, a carbon monoxide detector is good for seven years and a smoke detector is good for 10.

She’s the kind of girl they write books about…lots of emotions, a little chaos, and absolutely no sharing of ice cream. 😉🍦

Proof there really is a book for everyone! Find all these titles and more on our website!

📢 Major Library Update📢 Our staff has been working hard since we’ve been reorganizing the entire library… by color. 🌈

Starting today, all books will be shelved in rainbow order.
Need the newest thriller? It’s somewhere in the dark blues or purples.
Looking for romance? Try the pinks.

We hope this is more visually appealing to all of our patrons.

Happy April Fool’s Day!

Myth or Fact: Reading reduces stress more than walking or listening to music. 📚

Turns out… it’s fact. Even a few minutes of reading can help your mind relax.

Looking for a new book to relax and unwind with? We know just the place. 😉
