Welcome to Green Acres Milling!
City News April 25, 2025
The Albert Lea City Council approved a development agreement with Green Acres Milling of Latimer, Iowa, at its Nov. 12, 2024 meeting. The city will provide tax increment financing of $741,600 total for the development. The oat-milling company is building a processing facility in the Jobs Industrial Park that will create 12 jobs with an average annual wage of $100,000 including benefits.
The company broke ground on 14th Street in April 2025. Green Acres plans to open its 135,000-square-foot facility this year and will process 2 million bushels of oats per year.
The business is part of a momentum to revive the small grains market in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. More than 100 producers gathered at the Edgewater Bay Pavilion in Albert Lea in January 2025 to talk about growing small grains. Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen attended, saying of oat production, “It’s not just an option for economics. It’s actually really good too for the soil, for the water quality.”
